Issues of Early Professionals in Counseling Psychology

Community Mental Health Centers

Laura Kantorowski

Whittier, CA

A counseling psychologist faces many challenges when choosing to work in the community mental health center (CMHC) setting. As an early professional; the obstacles of immense paperwork and shrinking dollars translating into increased caseload allow for a rich although costly training/professional experience. The pros and cons are discussed within the context of one individual's experiences. Administrative and sexism issues are also discussed.
