The Interface between Work and Relationships in Transition

In this article the contextual framework for "The Interface of Work and Relationships: Critical Knowledge for 21st Century Psychology" is portrayed. A dialogue between an intuitive script, a cultural script of individualism, and a current script of change illuminates the challenges of the present state of transition. In light of features of the sociocultural and intellectual transition, critical issues for the study of work and relationships are examined. The need to enrich our linguistic tools and scaffold conceptualizations to enhance theory building, research, and practice in the interaction between work and relationships is discussed. A narrative mode of inquiry with an emphasis on the experience, its meaning, the process, and context is advanced as an appropriate approach for the study of the interface between work and relationships.
